“One of the most basic responsibilities of our institutions of higher learning is to keep our young people safe. If they have failed in that responsibility in any way, or if any victim of sexual assault has been treated with anything but the utmost respect, I will be outraged.”

For those who are caregivers, especially single parents or grandparents, finding childcare during lengthy treatment sessions can be a huge burden. Having the peace of mind that your children have a safe and fun place to go certainly relieves some of that stress." - Kate Starkey, Oncology Services Manager, Windham Hospital

Working with the hospital’s Cancer Navigation Program, Holiday Hill Day Camp in Mansfield, CT and the Channel 3 Kids Camp in Andover, CT provided full admission to the children – and by doing so, also gave some rest to the adults who are experiencing the physical and emotional stress caused by a cancer diagnosis.

Press Release

The Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) on the Storrs campus of the University of Connecticut presents “Big Love,” by Charles Mee, opening Thursday, Oct. 3 and playing through Oct. 13 in the Nafe Katter Theater.

Because true love has no conditions. That’s why it’s so awful to fall in love.” – Charles Mee (from Big Love)

Classical drama collides with modern-day excess in Charles Mee’s “Big Love,” a fiercely extravagant adaptation of Aeschylus’ “The Suppliants,” that The New York Times has described as “an MGM musical in Technicolor, a circus and, believe it, a Greek tragedy.”

How will the state’s new insurance plan affect you?

ACCESS HEALTH CT insurance exchange Jason Madrak 09-06-2013

Jason Madrak, Chief Marketing Officer for Access Health CT – the entity charged with enrolling Connecticut residents under the state’s new insurance program – was a guest on CTV14′s “Town Talk,” hosted by Brenda Sullivan.

By Brenda Sullivan | HTNP News Editor

As host of the CTV14 governmental affairs program, “Town Talk,” I recently interviewed Chief Marketing Officer Jason Madrak of Access Health CT – this is the entity that is charged with enrolling Connecticut residents under the new statewide insurance plan as part of the country’s Affordable Care Act.

You can watch my interview with Mr. Madrak online by clicking on this link http://www.ctv14.com and then clicking on the Programming tab. In this drop-down menu, choose VOD archives. On the next page, use the drop-down menu on the left (All Folders) and choose “Town Talk” from the bottom of that list.

In addition to the interview with Access Health CT, there’s a very informative “Town Talk” interview with Windham State Rep. Susan Johnson that also simplifies some of the nuts and bolts of what’s on the horizon.

(You can also speak with representatives of Access Health CT at the final Willimantic Third Thursday Street Fest http://willimanticstreetfest.com on Sept. 19, 2013. Look for their booth.)

Below are comments from Access Health CT Chief Executive Officer Kevin Counihan, issued Sept. 18, on getting ready to launch the sign-up program on Oct. 1, 2013.

This first wave of enrollment will continue until Jan. 1, 2014.

You may have noticed an increase in TV ads urging you to sign up for a company’s insurance plan. You may want to know that unless you are enrolled through Access Health CT, you will NOT be entitled to subsidies (in some cases, 100 percent subsidies).

Back in the day, used to be zombies were pretty easy to get away from – unless you happened upon a hive – but today, the rules have changed. Now they can run and in the case of at least one popular zombie film, they can strategize and work as a team.

Those are the kind of zombies you will encounter if you take part in the Zombie Charge 5K run coming up Saturday, Sept. 7 at Bison Brook Farms on Button Road in North Stonington, CT.

The event is being promoted via a Groupon deal with a $55 discount for single entries; the final cost is $39 for a single entry or $75 for two, plus a $4 insurance fee and a processing fee (not specified in the offer) each, payable at registration.
